"I can honestly say that On Target is now an equal partner in my business. By that I mean the tools we use allow me to measure my financials against my budget; they let me see if I can afford to buy a new van, they let me see which of my painters run the most productive jobs; they let me see if my collections efforts are effective; they let me see how much operating capital I should retain in case of a revenue shortfall one month.
Monthly telephone meetings with Linnea keep me focused on my numbers when they might otherwise be ignored due to ‘busyness’ or laziness; monthly meetings with our group keeps me focused on doing what I said I would be doing during the last meeting; goal setting is good and fine but unless there is reinforcement it tends to dissipate.
The bi-annual meetings are the highlight of my year; the benefits of sharing financial data with similarly sized peers; the ancillary modules on leadership, strategic planning and marketing are excellent; the shared knowledge re; technology upgrades, employee manuals, policies, etc., recent successes and even recent losses. There exists a tremendous feeling of support and openness at the meetings; no group hugs but honesty, good intentions and thoughtfulness abound.
My accountant has asked why I stay in the program if I have acquired the tools necessary to stay on top of my business. She sees the bottom line; an expense. I see the expense, which over the course of the year is probably the same amount I spend on gasoline, as an integral investment in my business and in myself; my career, my retirement, my kid’s college educations but also my mental well-being."
